High Level Summer PlanOver the summer we will focus on getting LOTS of volleyball touches. We will focus on core skills such as passing, setting, and hitting. We will focus on mastering the basics to be successful at volleyball. As the summer progresses, we will add some team system work and game play. The summer program is designed for athletes of all levels and we will pair athletes up accordingly to ensure everyone has a positive experience. Our goal is to build a stronger, faster, more competitive program. Your individual improvement this summer is a key part of that!
New this summer - we will be adding in some strength and conditioning programming to supplement what used to be speed and strength! We will mix some into our on court time, but there will also be a packet for training to happen outside of the gym on your own time. This is not required, but wanted to provide a resource for those of you that are looking to improve your overall athleticism this summer!
CoachesLaine Ruska - Summer Academy Lead CoachLaine has coached for OVB for the past 6 years and ran summer academy last summer! Laine's passion is teaching volleyball fundamentals and watching athletes of all levels grow. She brings lots of experience outside of OVB as well, as she coaches all year round at MN Select!
Hannah Perkins - Summer Academy CoachHannah is an OVB Alum who loves to get back in the gym when she's home from college! Hannah coached summer academy last summer and is excited to be back helping grow the future of OVB. Hannah was a DS/Pin Hitter and brings lots of knowledge on the game as a whole!
Jordan Ondrey - Summer Academy CoachJordan is also an OVB Alum who coached Summer Academy last summer. Jordan loves giving back to the program and helping the younger athletes grow. Jordan played just about every position, but brings excellent setting knowledge on top of her overall skill!
ExpectationsWe expect high level of effort and participation from our athletes this summer. If you are in the gym, we are expecting that you are there to work hard and get better at volleyball. We ask that everyone has an open mindset to learning new things, being challenged, and trusting the process.
We understand that it is summer vacation and you all have busy lives. There will not be any penalties for missing days this summer! We love to know when you'll be gone just for planning purposes, but no pressure to reach out every time!
The most important thing this summer is to
HAVE FUN! Us coaches are very passionate about the sport and OVB and we hope you leave the summer loving volleyball more than when you started!
Kids CampWhen you signed up, we asked for volunteers for our annual Kids Camp. Unfortunately, we had to cancel camp this summer. We will just have normal academy on Tuesday June 15th and Thursday June 17th. We will not need volunteers for other times that week.
Future of OVBI know there have been many questions coming in on coaches and other logistics for next season. At this time, I don't have a whole lot of information to share but am happy to answer any questions throughout the summer to help with the transition. They are actively working to hire a new head coach. I am committed to coaching the whole summer to make sure we don't lose any momentum in training, but if that changes as new coaches are hired, I will be sure to communicate that in advance. Coach O'Neill and myself are going to work with the new coach to ensure a smooth transition into next fall! Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns that you have and we will work to address them.
